Police Internships
The Allen Police Department internship program will help prepare the student with a better understanding of police work, which equips them to excel later in the hiring process. Students become familiar with communications, patrol, community relations, criminal investigations, street crimes, SWAT training, K9 unit and more.
About the Internship
Allen Police Interns are unpaid positions. When developing a schedule, both the number of hours needed by the student and the availability of police personnel will be considered. Most training will be done Monday-Friday, but some weekends may be required.
Eligibility
- Students must be enrolled in a Criminal Justice degree program or closely-related major
- If enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, the student must be classified as either a Junior or Senior
- If enrolled in an Associate's degree program, the student must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours
- Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Students must be a U.S. citizen.
- Students must be at least 18 years old.
Application Process
Students who meet all eligibility requirements should email police recruiting to express their interest in the Allen Police Department internship program. If qualified, the APD intern coordinator will email you a Personal History Statement (PHS). You will be required to submit the PHS, along with a copy (official or unofficial) of your transcripts to be considered for a preliminary interview.
A thorough background check will be completed on any student selected for the internship program.
