JULY 12, 2022 - New playground shade structures are coming to Orchards Park and Spirit Park, including a replacement of the spectator shade at Allen Station Park. City Council approved a $311,696 agreement for the shade structures during their July 12 Council meeting.

Allen Community Development Corporation approved funding for these four new shade projects in FY2022. Parks and Recreation staff examined all the city’s playgrounds to determine which were best suited for new shade based on factors such as the age of the playground, existing natural shade and size of play structures.

The call for playground shade came from Allen residents in recent years. The City first took action to respond to these requests in 2019 with the addition of a playground shade at Reed West Park. In 2020-2021, four new shade structures were installed at Bethany Lakes Park, Greenville Heights Park and Twin Creeks Park.

WeBuildFun, Inc. will install the four newest playground shades at Orchard, Spirit and Allen Station.
