SEPT. 27, 2022 - City Council approved a new Master Plan that will serve as a guide for future parks and recreation planning in Allen. The 2021-2031 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan was developed by Allen Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with MHS Planning & Design and PROS Consulting.

The Master Plan is created as a 10-year plan but is often updated every three to five years, dependent upon changes in the community and progress made on priority projects.

The new Master Plan was guided by community feedback including a resident survey and multiple focus groups. The Plan results from extensive public input, research of industry best practices, benchmarking at the national and local levels, and careful land use planning. The Parks and Recreation Board recommended adoption of the Master Plan to City Council in June 2022.

The Plan serves to fulfill several purposes:

  1. Use community input to set citywide goals, objectives and needs for the existing and future park system.
  2. Allow the City to apply for grants for future projects identified in the Plan.
  3. Serve as an informational guide for current and future members of city council, City staff, and the Parks and Recreation Department in making present and future decisions.
  4. Provide feasible, implementable recommendations for operation and growth of the Allen Parks and Recreation Department, leading to fulfillment of its mission: Creating meaningful LIFE experiences in Allen.
